Crushing it: The blindness of overconfident CEOs?

Investigating the relationships between JTBD importance and satisfaction in SMB CEOs & founders in North America.

The information presented below shares some findings that were a side effect of some user research completed by a product manager I work with, Xisca Mairata, who works for a client of mine, the management consulting company, ByMany. We set out to try and find some opportunities with small business CEOs and discover JTBDs that were both important ( 7> out of 10) and underserved (where CEOs reported they were unsatisfied in completing those jobs < 4 out of 10). A pattern emerged in the data, which I figured was worth documenting. That pattern is the nature of this article.

TLDR (The abstract)

The aim of this study was to examine the relationship and strength of Job to be Done (JTBD) tasks (relating to organisational culture) and business owners’ satisfaction in completing those tasks. To achieve this, we surveyed 202 CEOs and founders of small businesses all over the United States, asking them 18 questions related to specific cultural JTBDs.
